Born in Brighton, UK, Peter Davis now lives in Malaysia since relocating after the 2008 financial crash. He originally started grappling aged 20 as he puts it, “It’s a small part of my original martial arts style called Wuji Chuan.” Since then he has gone on to achieve his current rank of purple belt and is currently 38 years old. Based in Malaysia, he trains under Professor Bruno Barbosa at Monarchy MMA in Kuala Lumpur.
Davis also has had an active MMA background and is no stranger to the cage, with a pro record of 10-5. He lists the rear naked choke as his favourite submission saying it’s “nice and conclusive” and claims Adrian Pang was his hardest ever opponent.
When talking about BJJ he also said “I don’t really have many influences outside of my BJJ circle. But I love me some Imanari! and I want to jump into some more tournaments after Covid restrictions pull back and get way more experience in BJJ competitions“
Interestingly, he is also a model and has formerly worked as a banker. His role in modelling is quite unusual considering his active background in MMA. For obvious reasons, you could risk your looks when getting punched in the face. We asked him what his thoughts were on this and he stated “I was very successful in the modelling world but I wanted more. A FOMO (fear of missing out) made me jump into my first One Championship bout. I had plenty of ring rust, but I wanted to see if I could still compete before I lost my edge. There were a few things pushing me to fight again in my life, and it turned out to be amazing timing that helped to propel other parts of my career. No risk no gain. I’m just a jack of all trades that enjoys each activity that he does. And because I get passionate if I enjoy it, I get better at it, with a want to learn more about it, and to level up whenever I can.”
Regarding his banking past, he also says “Yes, I was in finance for a few years. And in the non-conforming mortgage industry that caused the global collapse. I was handing out financial advice during the week and punches in bunches over the weekend. It’s fun to be young and it’s rad to be a weekend warrior with MMA fights on the weekends!” With this said, it’s evident that Davis has had quite an unusual life and is far from typical after turning his hands to various, differing activities and skillsets.
Finally, we asked him about the most popular Google search when looking up his name – ‘Peter Hugh Davis wife’. We asked him to clarify this for the ladies out there who may be interested enough to look this up online, to which he quipped “They will have to wine and dine me to find out!”
