Robert Drysdale is a legend in his own right. He’s the first-ever North American to win ADCC and revolutionized darce chokes and cradle passing in the process. This week saw the release of his book, ‘Opening Closed Guard’ which is soon to be followed up with a documentary that has literally been years in the making.
The book is about the historical roots and origins of BJJ and is done from a historian’s perspective from Drysdale. Here, he gives his own comments about how BJJ came to its current situation today. Not only this, but it also features interviews with some of the older generation of Brazilians who massively influenced the martial art. For those curious about the origins of BJJ and want to separate fact and fiction, this is a must read.
The documentary is also due for release and may go on to be the best BJJ documentary ever due to the sheer amount of time and effort put into it. Until then, you can get the book here.
