Gracie Barra member Mariana Scott Azevedo was today promoted to black belt by professors Draculino and her husband Marcelo Azevedo. For several years now, Mariana has been one of the leading ladies of the Gracie Barra organization and seemed very happy to receive her new rank. She said “Of all the things I have done in this life, Jiu-Jitsu was the one that I got into most and without a doubt the one that most transformed me. I remember it from the beginning when I was surprised to realize that a woman eating me, apparently weaker and much lighter, could somehow beat someone stronger or heavier, that seemed like something magical.”
It will be interesting to see how she performs at black belt level after having a successful competition career at brown belt.
