Garry Tonon defeats Koyomi Matsushima by unanimous decision to continue ONE FC dominance

Whilst Garry Tonon failed to submit his opponent this time, his impressive winning streak at ONE FC continued today as he defeated Koyomi Matsushima via unanimous decision. The fight was controlled by The Lionkiller throughout as he was about to takedown Mastushima in the first round and get to his back. Impressively however, Mastushima managed to defend and survive against a rear naked choke. At one point it looked like he was close to going out, but soldiered on.

The second round followed a similar pattern, with Tonon securing a double leg takedown and had back control once again. This time he opted for a kimura grip and was looking for possible crucifix entries. Interestingly, it seemed Tonon was happy to stand in the final round where he more than held his own in terms of striking.

Overall, it was an impressive display from the American. His 100% submission record may be no more, but Matsushima was definitely his toughest opponent and was ranked 3rd, with Tonon ranked 5th. The victory will see Tonon in contention for a title shot in the near future which he asked for during his winning speech. In true Tonon style it was bizarre and sounded like something from an anime scene. Coupled with his mullet, handlebar mustache and tiger patterned shorts, you wouldn’t know he was one of the best fighters in One at the moment.

The fight can be seen in the video below and begins at the 1 hour 59 minute mark.
