Submission underground returned for one last event before the new year. The last event of 2020 was announced on very late notice and was revealed to fans less than 2 weeks before taking place.
The promotion is often criticized for it’s strange one sided match-ups and last night was no different. Whilst professional grapplers aren’t fighting cans by any means. There is still a massive difference between a judo gold medalist and a top 10 in the world grappler. The same goes for purple belt MMA fighters, of course this isn’t their first time doing BJJ, but when they’re facing off against seasoned black belts under a BJJ ruleset – the results are exactly what you would expect.
The three most one-sided matches of the night ended in 1:39, 2:08 and 55 seconds respectively. Although, as the event is streamed on UFC fightpass, perhaps this is what the casual fan wants to watch?
It seems as if SUG is looking for submissions and exciting finishes at any cost, rather than have two evenly matched grapplers face off in a boring draw.
