Maria Varshavskaia gets promoted to be the first Russian female Black Belt

Today, Maria Varshavskaia got promoted to black belt by her professor Ugur Kursadagansoy in Corvos Combat school in Turkey. Whilst all promotions to black belt are special, this one in particular is very unique and different. It turns out that the promotion makes Maria Vashavskaia the first female BJJ black belt from Russia.

This comes after years of hard training and dedication in Turkey where Varshavskaia also teaches. It’s fair to say that she fully embraces the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lifestyle and is part of the ever-growing BJJ scene in Turkey. This promotion will undoubtedly be the first of many for Russian women – as the sport is growing massively over they and Russia seems obsessed with all things BJJ and MMA.
