ADCC 2022 results and review

If you weren’t living under a rock over the past weekend, then you’ll have probably heard about the 2022 ADCC that went down. Undoubtedly, this was the biggest grappling competition ever and it did not disappoint. From the ramped-up budget and huge crowd to the elite-level grappling on show – it was simply awesome.

Here, we have posted the medals in each division. As ever, you’d expect to see the usual suspects. However, there were also a number of other breakthrough medalists who may shock you.

In true Gordon Ryan style, his run to gold in the +99KG bracket was made to look easy, eventually heelhooking former teammate Nicky Rodriguez in the first few minutes to claim gold. He then went on to dominate Andre Galvao in their superfight before finishing with a rear naked choke.

His New Wave teammates also performed well, with Nicholas Meregali getting a silver in the absolute division and silver in the -99KG. Elsewhere, Giancarlo Bodoni also dominated on his way to gold, submitting Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa in the finals.

This ADCC also featured the first ever gold medal for Great Britain, with Ffion Davies winning in the women’s under 60KG division, whilst Amy Campos got a shock gold in the plus 60KG division, scoring a neat takedown on Gabi Garcia on the way to the finals.

As for the B-Team, they truly did live up to their reputation with both Craig Jones and Nicky Rodriguez getting silver medals in their respective categories. As well, we can’t forget the talented Ruotolo brothers either, with Kade submitting all of his opponents in the -77KG division. His brother Tye also got a bronze in the absolute after getting a famous victory against Felipe Pena in the process. Lastly, ADCC also bid farewell to grappling legends such as Rafael Lovato Junior and Xande Ribiero who both retired on the mats.
