EBI 20 Absolutes Results & Review

Yesterday saw Eddie Bravo’s EBI return with the EBI 20 Absolutes event. This starred a number of high-profile BJJ grapplers and as ever, it threatened to be a scintillating watch. As the title of the event suggests, this was also an Absolute weight category, meaning the bulk of the competitors were on the heavier side. This featured the likes of Kyle Boehm, Nicky Rodriguez, Giancarlo Bodoni, Roosevelt Souza, Austin Baker, and many more.

Nick Rodriguez vs Kyle Boehm (FINAL MATCH) – Rodriguez win by rear naked choke in overtime.

As you’d expect, this type of ruleset favored Nick Rodriguez who was also one of the bigger grapplers there. Despite his large frame, Rodriguez is known for his endless gas tank, strong back control and effective back escapes due to his explosiveness. With this said, he was arguably the favorite from the start, and will take home the prize money.

Unfortunately, Giancarlo Bodoni got injured who just won gold at ADCC. Perhaps he could have been the man to defeat Rodriguez but had to pull out. Elsewhere, 10th Planet’s Kyle Boehm put in a strong performance with plenty of submissions before falling short in the final match. Overall, it was a fun affair and it’s good to see the return of the EBI competition.
