Polaris 22 – Results & Review: Middleweight Grand Prix

Last night saw Roberto Jimenez crowned the king of the Polaris Middleweights after defeating Jed Hue in the final of the Grand Prix. This saw him also take home $20,000 which would have been a welcome pay cheque for the Ecuadorian.

This event saw 8 men battle it out for a chance of glory and used its own set of rules whereby advanced positions would earn one point each. Undoubtedly, the star of the night was Roberto Jimenez whose fast-paced style pushed the tempo and controlled his bouts. His match against Hunter Colvin was particularly exciting which eventually ended up with a triangle choke, despite Colvin looking to have some deep arm bar attacks of his own at times.

Elsewhere, Polaris veteran Ash Williams defeated ex-UFC champion Carlos Condit by heel hook. In fairness to Condit, he attacked a heel hook of his own earlier and also took Williams down, showing off some good BJJ in the process. In the pre-lims, the standout was clearly Owen Jones who triangle’d his opponent Anton Defreitas within one minute. He is clearly one to watch for the future.
