U.S Airforce learns BJJ from Carlos Machado

In a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence and combat readiness, Defenders from the 87th Air Base Wing in Lakehurst, New Jersey seized a unique opportunity for professional development. From January 17-18, 2024, they participated in an intensive BJJ training program led by world-renowned coral belt, Master Carlos Machado.

Carlos, from the legendary Machado family, has helped shape the American BJJ landscape for decades and brought years of experience and expertise to the training session. Having trained thousands of students, including notable figures like U.S. Air Force Veteran and martial arts master Chuck Norris, Master Machado’s presence undoubtedly elevated the training’s prestige and value.

Over the course of two days, Master Machado skillfully wove together technical BJJ instruction with elements designed to fortify the Defenders’ mental and physical well-being. The training went beyond mere hand-to-hand combat skill development, incorporating aspects of mental resilience, focused awareness, mindfulness, and peak physical conditioning. This holistic approach embodied the core principles of the “Warrior Heart” culture, emphasizing the interconnectedness of physical prowess, mental fortitude, and unwavering determination.

During his competitive career, Machado achieved numerous victories, including the Pan American Championship in 1997 and 1998, multiple super fight wins in the U.S. Open in 1998 and 1999, and a notable participation in the ADCC in 1998, where he achieved the fastest submission despite competing with a broken foot. Carlos’ impressive achievements extend to the World Master’s Championships in 2000, where he clinched victories in both the middleweight and open class divisions.
