BJJ legend Dean Lister hospitalized with ruptured spleen after hit and run

In early April, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legend Dean Lister revealed that he had been hit by a car in a hit and run and had a ruptured spleen as a result. This required surgery that has since happened, and he is healing from. Lister stated on his Gofundme “Thursday night I stepped outside to go eat. I heard a loud scraping sound to my left and turned just in time (bad time) to be hit by a car.”

He also added “I get a Cat Scan and yes my spleen is ruptured and now the pain is worse but I’m on pain killers. I really dislike hospitals and hate the idea of spending time in one.”

The result is that Lister can not teach at his gym, Victory BJJ for the time being as well, but at least he is resting and hopefully makes a swift recovery.

Lister is a BJJ legend and also had a successful MMA career, fighting in Pride and UFC. However, he is best known for winning three gold medals at the coveted ADCC tournament and massively influenced leg locks in the sport.
