John Danaher shows how to do the Clock Choke from Turtle

Today the legendary coach John Danaher put out a video showing how to do the Clock Choke. For those wondering, the clock choke works by getting lapel grips on your opponents collar. Typically the Clock Choke is used to attack the Turtle position but can also be used from top side control. From here the idea is to pull the lapels tightly whilst walking around your opponents head in a clock-like fashion. As you walk further over your opponents head, your weight should add to the pressure and result in a tap.

In BJJ, the Clock Choke is one of the few strangles which doesn’t need hooks. As Danaher explains, the majority of choke positions are from the back such as the Bow and Arrow and Rear Naked Choke. Because of this, the Clock Choke is fairly unique as it doesn’t need as much control as other choking positions.

In the video below Danaher details this with his typical precise methods such as the importance of the opponents shoulder line whilst applying the submission.
