Keanu Reeves on BJJ & why he’s a great example to all

Keanu Reeves isn’t the first celebrity to train BJJ, nor will he be the last. However, there’s something quite unique about Reeves that makes him an enigma compared to other celebrities. If you read about the stories based on him online, you’ll find that people have nothing but good to say about him. For example, there’s recently been a lot of talk about Ellen DeGeneres being mean. With Keanu, it’s the complete opposite. For instance, there’s this story about his behavior and how he’s a genuine guy. Not only this, but there are countless other stories about Reeves that have circulated the internet about his great personality and how he’s always kind to people.

Interestingly, he’s also known to have practiced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo for his role in John Wick. The film franchise follows John Wick as he fights against the Russian mafia and it features a number of cool fight scenes where he uses his grappling skills to disarm and kill his enemies. Reeves trained with the legendary Machado brothers for the role who are responsible for training many Hollywood A-listers. Reeves said this about his training “I’m in the training paradigm. I really enjoyed the physical side of it. I’m a Virgo. I like tasks, I like puzzles, I like trying to get good at something, so it’s fun to do the physical stuff.

Often in Jiu Jitsu, we talk about it being an ego-killer and how it destroys a bad attitude. However, in the case of Keanu Reeves it seems he had a great mentality to begin with anyway.
